OPENCAST MINING CONTRACTS

GROOTEGELUK COAL MINE (Kumba Resources)

Grootegeluk Coal Mine, the largest coal mine, is situated in Limpopo province. The opencast mining contract for Bench 12 and 13 was awarded to Trollope Mining Services in January 2005. The "rollover" mining method resulting in significant cost savings for Kumba.

1.2mil of m³ of sandstone is excavated to form a sump which is utilized for storm water drainage. The duration of the contract is 18 months.
