OPENCAST MINING CONTRACTS XSTRATA COAL
The Tselentis operation includes single and multiple seam mining, all drilling and blasting requirements and rehabilitation. The current production is 300,000 tons of coal per month with a total overburden of 1.5million m³. A total complement of 65 machines are use to execute this operation which includes 45ton to 110ton excavators and 65ton to 110ton dozers.

Ratro Mining, a division of Trollope Mining Services, operates the open cast coalmines
(Tselentis & Spitzkop Collieries) for Xstrata Coal, in the Ermelo, Mpumalanga region.
The company has recently initiated a community "coal picking" project to assist with poverty alleviation in Breyten, a high unemployment area. Community members have been supplied with all the necessities to recycle contaminated coal. The project, which commenced with 19 people from the community, involves cleaning contaminated coal and selling the clean coal back to the mine.
